Using Fewer Turns in Bottle Circuit

By Bottle Shooting3 min read

A solved route gives you something useful to replay. Count rotations, separate equivalent straight-bottle positions and decide when a hint is worth using.

A straight bottle with two equivalent orientations beside an elbow bottle and three star markers.

Your chamber clears with two stars. In Bottle Circuit, the result depends on counted turns and hints, so an efficient replay starts by checking those numbers rather than clicking faster.

The reference is a route allowance

REF shows the supplied route's turn count. The game calculates it from the starting orientations and the clockwise rotations needed along that reference path, while leaving unrelated bottles out of the calculation.

It is not a proven global minimum. A chamber may allow another valid connection through all three seals, so beating REF can reflect a different route rather than an error in the game.

Three stars require no hints. You must also finish within REF plus two turns, while two stars allow up to two hints and REF plus eight turns; other completed routes earn one star.

Straight bottles repeat after two turns

A vertical straight bottle points up and down. One clockwise turn makes it horizontal, and a second restores the same pair of usable ports even though the glass illustration has rotated halfway around.

An elbow needs a four-position comparison. Its adjacent ports can face up-right, right-down, down-left or left-up, so a route may require more than one clockwise turn before that bottle connects the intended pair.

Check the ports before the silhouette. A bottle that looks upside down can still carry water through the required opposite edges, saving you two unnecessary turns when you recognize the equivalent straight orientation.

Undo removes a trial rotation from the count

You can test a change without keeping it. Undo restores the previous orientation and move count for that action, which lets you compare a local idea before committing it to the route you eventually finish.

Hints follow a separate rule. Align one bottle rotates a reference-route bottle into place and records the clockwise turns involved, while also adding one to the hint tally shown beneath the board.

Undo does not erase that hint tally. If you want a fresh attempt without recorded assistance, reset the chamber after studying the clue and build the route again from its original starting layout.

Replay the solved structure, not the click sequence

Start by naming the route's bends. Identify which elbows connect the inlet to the three seals, then work through the straight sections without rotating bottles that the chosen path never needs to enter.

Finish once the required connection works. The game does not ask you to light every spare bottle, so tidying unused corners adds turns without bringing another seal into the inlet-to-receiver path.

Your saved stars keep their highest result. Replaying a chamber for fewer turns will not replace a three-star record with a lower award, and the browser also stores the smallest completed turn count for that chamber.

For route selection, read planning the three required stops; for diagnosis, use the first broken connection. You can find the lab in the puzzle games category or return to the Bottle Shooting homepage to compare this untimed challenge with the arcade's aiming games.
